Hi All! It's been a long, hot week here in Somerville OH, but lots of positive things have been happening inside our little barn :)
Like learning how to weave! Our Weaving 101 Workshop last Saturday was booked full of crafters eager to weave, and thanks to our skilled teacher, Emma, we spent the day learning the basics of warping and weaving on a 10 inch rigid heddle loom. The four hour workshop included detailed information about the loom, the tools, the warping process, the weaving, and finishing projects. Class participants had the opportunity to start with a basic cotton dish cloth and see where their creativity took them. As you can imagine out of a group of crafters, there were some pretty unique creations. In fact, people were so excited about the class that we are already planning our Weaving 201 Workshop, so stay tuned for that!
Aside from the Weaving workshop on Saturday, we also managed to debut a new line of yarn, handspun in the mill and hand dyed by Carrie. The Mineral Line came about (as some of our featured lines do) as a spinning experiment gone RIGHT! What was supposed to be an even 2-ply fingering yarn, somehow transformed into a shiny, textured, silver beauty that, when dyed, resembled shimmering stones in a creek. Which is where the name inspiration came from; the four colors are called Granite, Sandstone, Emerald, and Sapphire. Look for them on our Yarn Page.
Remember in my first blog post when I mentioned that we were ordering some new patterns for the store? Well they're finally here and they are amazing! We ordered all of the patterns from Knitspot, and all were designed by fellow Ohio knitwear designer, Anne Hanson. These aren't your typical patterns (although there are a few staple hats, mittens, and shawls), these are patterns that you want to make for someone special to cherish forever. Anne has a knack for creating knitwear pieces that are unique yet also become a staple item in your closet.
We have 26 different patterns available for purchase in our store, so stop by tomorrow for Open Farm Day, or any other time and check them out!
Speaking of Open Farm Day, we are prepared for our annual day of fun at the ranch. The portalet has arrived, the store has been rearranged, the Alpaca Selfie booth is constructed, and now we are preparing the mill for a day of touring guests. We can't wait to show off the product of our tireless efforts, so if you're looking for something fun to do for an hour with the family, head on over to the farm and say hi! We will be conducting mill tours throughout the day from 10 am - 5 pm. Click here for more info.
Thanks for checking in with us, now I'm back to work! Wishing you happy summer days of crafting and relaxing. Talk to you next week --- Robbie, Carrie, Liz, Emma, and Anna.
